JURY AWARDS SOLAS OLED Ltd $62.7 million FOR SAMSUNG’s Infringement of OLED display and Touch Sensor patents

March 9, 2021 / Latest News

Stephen Dell, Founder and President of NOVUM, was retained as the damages expert on behalf of Solas OLED Ltd. Mr. Dell provided testimony regarding the reasonable royalty damages owed to Solas as a result of Samsung Display Co. Ltd.’s infringement of Solas’s OLED display and touch sensor patents.

After rescheduling the initial trial twice due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Chief District Judge Rodney Gilstrap started trial March 1, 2021.  After a 6-day trial, the jury returned a verdict in favor of Solas finding two of the asserted patents to be valid and infringed by Samsung, and accepted the opinions Mr. Dell presented at trial awarding Solas reasonable royalty damages of $62.7 million. The jury also found that Samsung willfully infringed one of Solas’ patents.  Judge Gilstrap later enhanced the damages award adding another $15.0 million in damages.
